CALLING ALL… amateur and passionate home brewers!

The Orléans Craft Beer Festival (OCBF) is hosting their third annual home brew competition.

OCBF’s goal is to highlight, celebrate and bring together the best beer, food, music and friends in the east end of Ottawa and we want to include the talented home brewers!

The winner for Best in Show will have an opportunity to have their winning beer made and sold at Orleans Brewing Co.  How awesome is that?!

The OCBF Home Brew Competition will accept a maximum of 150 entries.

All funds collected in the form of entry fees will be used for prizes and competition logistics, cups, bread, crackers, etc.

Awards will be given for Best of Class winners in each category plus the Best Of Show will get a pro-am prize to brew with Orleans Brewing Co.

Entrants must register by the registration deadline by completing the entry form for each beer. Recipe information is optional. Registration is complete once payment has been made. Please note that beers cannot be judged without payment. All payments are in Canadian funds.

All home brewers are eligible to enter beers they have brewed. Beers must be brewed on homebrew systems. Commercial beers or beers brewed on commercial equipment (commercial scale systems or commercial pilot systems) are not eligible. Unmodified kit beers are ineligible, as are any beers where the entrant brewer did not perform a majority of the tasks. Samples become property of the OCBF upon registration. Bottles will not be returned to entrants. 

Participants must be 19 years or age or older (valid identification required).

Only one entry may be made per sub-category, for categories where no sub-category exists, only one entry may be made. Categories with few entries will be combined with other similar categories for judging purposes and category finalists.

Participants are limited to eight (8) entries each.

Two bottles of standard size beer samples per entry is required.

Each set of entries must include a copy of the completed entry form and receipt, along with two (2) labelled bottles (use receipt) for each entry. ATTACH RECEIPTS TO BOTTLES WITH ELASTIC, labels glued or taped may not be judged.

All entries need to be dropped off at Orleans Brewing Co. and will only be accepting during drop off period (May 13th to 24th). 

All prizes must be picked up, there will be no mail outs.

 

Accepted Categories

Categories will be divided into groups. One winner per group will be judged for Best in Show as winner of competition. (Final judging will be done at Orleans Craft Beer Festival on Thursday June 7th, 2018 – time to be determined) Entries scoring less than 25 points (out of 50) may not be eligible for an award based on the discretion of the judges.

It is the entrant’s responsibility to enter his or her beer in the proper category, as specified in the 2015 BJCP “Style Guidelines.”

Entries in some categories/sub-categories need to specify special ingredients and/or classic style information on the entry form and bottle labels. See the 2015 BJCP guidelines for more info.

Excluded categories include; 27, 28, 30, 31, 34

Feedback and score sheets will be sent to competitor by July 1st 2018.

This competition is AHA/BJCP sanctioned

For Pro-Am prize the brewer may be asked to provide his/her recipe. While winner will be participating in brewing of winning beer, OBC reserves the rights to all branding, marketing, recipe, label design, distribution, licensing and revenue of brewed winning beer. OBC cannot guarantee brewing of exact beer and changes can be made to recipe.
